Control Room 69

The twenty-two-hour sound composition specially prepared for Luxembourg’s Radio Art Zone is a remix of several pre-recorded programmes and sonic realities: spoken word, musique concréte, field recording and electronic manipulation of various new and old media. Members of Handa Gote group perform and exhibition to their own archives and to their storage place, which is called Control Room 69 (Velín 60 in Czech language), filled with various items related to media archeology and huge collection of obsolete media. They record vinyls, magnetic tapes, try to play few of their wax cylinders, inspect and record various kinds of old digital media, sound objects and machines like barrel
organs, music boxes, walkie-talkies or bat detectors. They use lo-fi recording equipment, like a crystal or coal microphones and multitrack tape machines, as well as modern digital technology. They also create improvised recording session right in the storage using during which they use their collection of DIY musical instruments, old electronic equipment and several found objects.
